I read this really great article about the interest in Evaluations in Education called, "Teachers want to Learn Too." Three major points were made in this presentation:
- Help the good become great
- Revamp professional development
- Develop peer evaluators
Coincidentally, I was having a conversation about this exact topic with my mother. As an elementary principal she is overwhelmed with the amount of recent-mandated evaluations of her staff. With the most recent high stakes being inforced in her district, the idea of "seniority" has disappeared and documentation of teachers' performance is in her hands. Although there are some strenghs to the model, it is bittersweet. I explained to her that in Denver Public Schools, we've spent the last few years piloting an evaluation system that has multiple components... one being a peer evaluator.

SO WHAT DO YOU THINK? Comments and questions welcome! Does your district utilize other resources as part of evaluation system? What experiences do you have?
